Midweek Thought For Meditation- 4/29/26

Hi Everyone,

This week we are invited to see the goodness and truth in every perspective we encounter. These ancient texts remind us of the essence of a meaningful life  is compassion, tolerance, and the pursuit of happiness.  There is no need for argument.  There is only the shared journey.  What truly counts is how we express our faith through love and how we treat one another.

Be tolerant of others’ beliefs.

It makes no difference as to the name of God, since love is the real God of all the world.
Native American Religions.  Apache proverb

CHRISTIANITY
God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.                    Acts 10:34 & 35
Everyone who does right is righteous.                      I John 3:7
The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.     Galatians 5:6

ISLAM
Allah is our Lord and your Lord.  We have our own works and you have yours;  let there be no argument between us.  Allah will bring us all together, for unto our Lord is the journeying.           Qur’an 42.15
Would you dispute with us about Allah, who is our Lord and your Lord?  We will both be judged by our works.                   Qur’an 2.139

BUDDHISM
One should never engage in frivolous debate over the various doctrines or disputes or wrangle over them.  With regard to all living beings one should think of them with great compassion.         The Lotus Sutra, chapter 14
To be attached to a certain view and to look down upon others’ view as inferior–this the wise call a fetter.             Sutta Nipata 798

HINDUISM
In whatever way people approach me, in that way do I assist them;  but whatever path taken by people, that path is mine.      Bhagavad Gita 4.11
Like the bee, gathering honey from different flowers, the wise accept the essence of different scriptures and see only the good in all religions.                Bhagavata Purana 11.3

Judaism
One who is pleasing unto other people is pleasing unto God.    Abot 3.3
Anyone in whom are these three traits is one of the disciples of Abraham, our father… (1) a generous spirit, (2) a modest mien, and (3) a humble soul. [The disciples of Abraham] inherit the world to come.     Abot 5.19

CONFUCIANISM
The noble-minded are all-encompassing, not stuck in doctrines… The noble minded are principled, but never dogmatic.     Analects 2.14,15.37
The problem with clinging to a single doctrine is that it plunders the Way. Mencius VII.A.26

TAOISM
If you know the eternal law, you are tolerant;  being tolerant, you are impartial;  being impartial you are kingly;  being kingly, you are in accord with nature;  being in accord with nature, you are in accord with Tao;  being in accord with Tao, you are eternal.                          Tao Te Ching 16

*Musical links  help deepen our understanding of the theme and invite us to allow ourselves to release any rigid attachments to being right, and instead open our hearts to being kind.
