Midweek Thought For Meditation- 4/8/26
Hi Everyone,
Our theme this week is about impartial grace, generosity, and love without condition. This challenges our natural instincts. We want fairness. We want goodness rewarded and wrongdoing withheld from blessing. These verses invite us to something higher–not fairness but grace. Can we reflect the heart of God? Are we willing to become like rain, quietly, faithfully and generously blessing all?
Be impartial.
God’s rain falls even on the witch.
American Traditional Religions. Tanzanian proverb
CHRISTIANITY
Be children of your father in Heaven, for he makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, and send rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? Matthew 5:45
ISLAM
The earth which bears you and the sky which overshadows you are obedient to their sustainer (Allah).
They have not been bestowing their blessings on you for any feeling of pity on you or any inclination towards you, nor for any good which they expect from you. SHITE. Nahjul Balagha, sermon 142
BUDDHISM
That great cloud rains down on all whether their nature is superior or inferior. The light of the sun and the moon illuminates the whole world, both those who do well and those who do ill, both those who stan high and those who stand low. Lotus Sutra, chapter 5
HINDUISM
What good did the creatures of the earth do to the clouds that pour rain? So indeed should you serve society, seeking no return. Tirukkural 211
The earth supports all created beings equally. Laws of Manu 9.311
Judaism
Rain is for both the righteous and the wicked. Taanith 7a
Is God not the One who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands? Job 34.18-19
CONFUCIANISM
When rain falls on our public land, it also falls on our private land. Mencius III.A.3
TAOISM
Heaven and earth join, and gentle rain falls, beyond the command of anyone, evenly upon all.
Tao Te Ching 32
