Midweek Thought For Meditation- 5/20/26

Hi Everyone,

From our verses this week we hear a shared truth: loving partnership is built on unity, respect, compassion, and mutual care.  These teachings speak not just to one kind of couple, but to all who choose to walk life together.

Whether in same -sex, opposite- sex, or gender -diverse relationships, every partnership flourishes when love is practiced with kindness, equality, and a shared spirit.  When two people honor one another, they create a home where both can grow, belong, and find peace.

                              Find harmony with your spouse.

They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies.

Sikhism.  Guru Granth Sahib, Suhi Chhant, p.788

CHRISTIANITY

If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.   Mark 3:25

Each of you should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband.               Ephesians 5:33

Let marriage be held in honor by all.       Hebrews 13:4

ISLAM

Allah created mates for you from yourselves that you might find quiet of mind in them, and he put between you love and compassion.    Qur’an 30.21

The best of you are the kindest of you to their spouses.    Hadith of Tirmidhi

BUDDHISM

When both are faithful and generous, self-restrained, of righteous living, they come together as husband and wife, full of love for each other.  Many blessings come their way; they dwell together in happiness.                     Anguttara Nikaya 55

HINDUISM

Place me within your heart; may one mind be in common to us both!                        Atharva Veda 4.7.36

Be not parted - growing old, taking thought, thriving together, moving under a common yoke, come speaking sweetly to one another; I’ll make you have one aim and be of one mind.        Atharva Veda 3.30

Judaism

A man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.               Genesis 2.24

Better is a dinner with vegetables where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.                 Proverbs 15.17

CONFUCIANISM

The Master said: ‘Husband and wife should follow each other”                                    Doctrine of the Man 15.

When two people understand each other in their inmost hearts , their words are sweet and strong, like the fragrance of orchids.              I Ching, Great Commentary 1.8.6

TAOISM

Cultivate harmony within your family, and harmony becomes fertile… Tao Te Ching 54

Musical links - Love is rooted in respect, compassion, and unity.  As we listen, may we reflect on how love calls each of us to build one another up, and to create relationships where both people can truly flourish.
