Midweek Thought For Meditation- 5/27/26
Hi Everyone,
This week there is a shared call to honor those who came before us with humility, gratitude and care. These words invite us to speak gently, act kindly, and recognize the sacred dignity in our parents, elders, and all who have shaped our lives. In honoring them, we learn how to love more deeply and live more faithfully.
Honor your parents and respect your elders.
Do not despise the breath of your fathers, but draw it into your body.

CHRISTIANITY
Honor you father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise – that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy life on earth. Ephesians 6:2-3
Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly. Leviticus 19:32
ISLAM
Do good to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you… speak to them with a generous word. Lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy, and say: My Lord, have mercy on them, as they brought me up when I was little. Qur’an 17. 23-24
BUDDHISM
Brethren, one can never repay two persons, I declare. What two? Mother and Father. Anguttara Nikaya 1. 61
Four things increase for the one who shows honor and respect to elders: length of life, beauty, happiness and health. Dhammapada 109
HINDUISM
Let your mother be to you like a God! Let your father be to you like a God! Taittiriya Upanishad 1.11.2
Judaism
There are three partners in man: God, father, and mother. When people honor their father and mother, God say, “I regard it as though I had dwelt among them and they honored me” Kiddushin 306
My child, keep your father’s commandment and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Proverbs 6.20
CONFUCIANISM
The path of duty lies in what is near, and people seek for it in what is remote… If each person would love his own parents and show the due respect to elders, the whole land would enjoy tranquility. Mencius IV.A.1
The noble-minded would not for all the world be stingy to their parents. Mencius II.B.7
TAOISM
Fulfill your duties by your parents. Chung Tzu 3
