Midweek Thought For Meditation- 7/1/26

Hi Everyone,

Truth is a gift that connects us to one another and to God. Honesty is not merely about facts.  It’s about integrity, humility, and love.  When we speak truth with compassion, admit our mistakes and live authentically, we become people that others can trust. In a world where words can divide or heal, may we choose honesty that is gentle, courageous, and life-giving.

                                                                                   Be Honest

Speak truth in humility to all people.  Only then can you be a true person.
                                                       Native American Religions.  Sioux proverb

CHRISTIANTY

Speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.                                       Ephesians 4:15
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. Proverbs 12:19

ISLAM

Bear true witness before Allah, even though it be against yourselves…  do not be led by passion, or you will swerve from the truth.                 Qur’an 4.135
Surely truth leads to virtue, and virtue leads to paradise, and one continues to speak the truth until one becomes thoroughly truthful…                            Hadith of Bukhari

BUDDHISM

Speak truth with discretion, fearlessly and in a loving heart.       Gospel of Buddha 46.7
The person who tells a lie, who transgresses in this one thing, transcending concern for the world beyond: There’s no evil might do.                           Dhammapada 176
Lying is the origin of all evils.                  Maharatnakuta Sutra 27, Bodhisattva Surata’s Discourse
HINDUISM

Speaking the truth with kindness, honesty that causes no pain… this is control of speech.          Bhagavad Gita 17. 15
The one who is dishonest with respect to speech is dishonest in everything. Laws of Manu 4.256
The speech of enlightened ones consists of truth soaked in affection… find the words that save truth from harshness.             Tirukkural 91,96

JUDAISM

The seal of God is truth.               Shabbat 55
Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.   Proverbs 23.23
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.                       Psalm 34.12-13

CONFUCIANISM

The object of the superior person is truth.              Analects 15.31
