Midweek Thought For Meditation- 7/15/26

Hi Everyone,

The common theme of our verses this week is the condemnation of theft and the promotion of honest living. Taking what belongs to another not only harms the victim, but the spiritual and moral integrity of the perpetrator. These verses affirm that true prosperity is rooted in honesty, labor & respect for others.

                                                                         Don’t steal.

                                                      Stolen food never satisfies hunger.

                                             Native American Religions.  Omaha proverb

CHRISTIANTY

Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy.     Ephesians 4:28

ISLAM

You shall not take each other’s money illicitly, nor shall you bribe the officials to deprive others of some of their rights illicitly, while you know.  Qur’an 2.188

BUDDHISM

Whoever takes by theft what has not been given to them, and what is cherished by others, should be known as an outcast.                                     Sutta Nipata 119

HINDUISM

The mere thought of sin is sin.  Therefore, avoid even the thought of stealing from another                                     Tirukkural 282
The wickedness of evil-minded thieves, who secretly prowl over this earth, cannot be restrained except by punishment.       Laws of Manu 9.263

JUDAISM

Ill-gotten treasures are of no value.                    Proverbs 10.2
You shall not steal.                                              Exodus 20.15

CONFUCIANISM

Virtue is the “root” and wealth is the “branches.”
Wealth taken wrongly will also leave wrongly.          The Great Learning, chapter 10

TAOISM

Those who seize property are like those who relieve their hunger by eating tainted meat, or quench their thirst by drinking poisoned liquor.                 Treatise on Response & Retribution 5
There are some people whose behavior is unrighteous…
They impoverish others for their own gain…
They break into other’s houses to take their property and valuables.   Treatise on Response & Retribution 3
