The Hands On Church
Midweek Thought For Meditation- 7/22/26

Hi Everyone,

Fidelity is recognized as the foundational safeguard of spiritual, emotional, and relational integrity.  When commitment is broken, turmoil and self inflicted harm follows betrayal.  True intimacy  relies on a sacred trust that shields both partners from temptation.  These passages urge us to guard our hearts and spirits by emphasizing that honor in love requires active, intentional and spiritual  discipline.

                                                  Don’t commit adultery.

Violating and misusing love is the gravest of all crimes.
Unification Church.  Sun Myung Moon, 3/20/77

CHRISTIANTY

Guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.                                                                Malachi 2:15
Can fire be carried in the bosom without burning one’s clothes?  Anyone who commits adultery lacks judgement.            Proverbs 6:27,32

ISLAM

Don’t come nigh to adultery: for it is a shameful deed and an evil, opening the road to other evils.                                        Qur’an 17.32

BUDDHISM

Four misfortunes befall a careless person who commits adultery:  Acquisition of demerit, disturbed sleep, blame, and a state of woe.  There is acquisition of demerit as well as evil destiny.      Dhammapada 309
HINDUISM

“Let mutual fidelity continue until death,”  this may be considered as the summary of the highest law for husband and wife.     Law of Manu 9.101
A man should not think incontinently of another”s wife, much less address her to that end; for such a man will be reborn in a future life as a creeping insect.  Whoever commits adultery is punished both here and hereafter.  Vishnu Purana 3.11

JUDAISM

Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.  Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth… be intoxicated always by her love.                            Proverbs 5. 15- 19
You shall not commit adultery.                              Exodus 20.14

CONFUCIANISM

Don’t do what shouldn’t be done and don’t desire what shouldn’t be desired.  That’s all there is to it.                            Mencius VII.A.17

TAOISM
Do not approach your neighbor’s wife or maids.  Tract of the Quiet Way
It is true that you commit no actual crimes; but when you meet a beautiful woman in another’s home and can not banish her from your thoughts, you have committed adultery with her in your heart.            Treatise on Response & Retribution, Moral Tales 12
