Midweek Thought For Meditation- 7/29/26

Hi Everyone,

“Actions speak louder than words “isn’t just a cliche’. It’s the ultimate test of integrity.  Without actions to anchor them, our words are nothing more than empty noise.  This week, we explore what it truly means to practice what we preach.

                                           Practice what you preach.

They say one thing, and do something else.
There is no love in their hearts, and yet with their mouths they talk tall.

Sikhism. Guru Granth Sahib, Gauri Sukhmani, p. 269

CHRISTIANTY

They do not practice what they teach.  They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them.  They do all their deeds to be seen by others.         Matthew 23:3-5
Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.    I John 3:18

ISLAM

It is most hateful in the sight of Allah that you say that which you do not.        Qur’an 61.3
That knowledge is superficial which remains only on your tongue: the intrinsic merit and value of knowledge is that you act up to it.          Shiite. Nahjul Balaga, saying 93

BUDDHISM

Whatever advice you give to others, do the same yourself.         Dhammapada 159
As a flower that is lovely and beautiful, but is scentless, even so fruitless is the well-spoken word of one who does not practice it.      Dhammapada 51

HINDUISM

There are no bigger fools than those who have acquired much learning and preach the same to others, but who do not control themselves.         Tirukkural  834

JUDAISM

Say little and do much.     The Fathers According to Rabbi Nathan XXIII.I
The other rivers say to the Euphrates, “How come you don’t sound off as you flow, the way in which the rest of us make our flow heard from a distance?”   The river said to them,”My deeds give evidence concerning me, so I don’t have to announce how great I am.”       Sifre Deuteronomy VI.III.3

CONFUCIANISM

The noble-minded are ashamed if their words outshine their actions.   Analects 14.29

TAOISM

The wise don’t talk, they act.       Tao Te Ching 17
