Midweek Thought For Meditation- 7/8/26

Hi Everyone,

Trustworthiness is a profound responsibility.  Our words and our commitments shape our character and our communities. To break an oath or neglect small duties is to fracture our relationship with God and with each other.  Being accountable to what we promise wraps love and truth around our hearts.

                                                                                   Be trustworthy.

The promises of the wise are like dew on the field.
                                                              African Traditional Religion.  Nilotic proverb

CHRISTIANTY

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.  If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?                                                                  Luke 16:10-11
Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in times of trouble.                                                                  Proverbs 25:19

ISLAM

Keep your promises; you are accountable for all that you promise.                 Qur’an 17.34
Those that sell … their own oaths for a paltry price will have no share in the world to come.                                                    Qur’an 3.77

BUDDHISM

Keep company with the trustworthy —- they will make you happy like close family.                                                                      Dhammapada 207
[A bhikkhu] is trustworthy, reliable, and undeceiving of the world.                                The Noble Eightfold Path
HINDUISM

Let no wise person swear an oath falsely, even in a trifling matter; for whoever swears an oath falsely is lost in this world and after death.                 Laws of Manu 8.111

JUDAISM

It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.  Do not let your mouth lead you into sin.                                              Ecclesiastes 5. 5-6
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablets of your heart.  Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and of people.                       Proverbs 3.3-4

CONFUCIANISM

The Master’s teaching all hangs on faithfulness and fellow feeling.      Analects 4.15
Without trust a people cannot stand.                 Analects 12.7

TAOISM

Whoever lightly makes a promise will find it often hard to keep their faith.  Whoever makes light of many things will encounter many difficulties.      Tao Te Ching 63
